Early Childhood Programs
Meeting the needs of our youngest learners through exploration, play, and discovery.
Our Preschool Autism and Pre-School Disabled (PSD) programs utilize a comprehensive educational approach that blends proven methods like Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) with the NJDOE-recommended Creative Curriculum. To further enhance our students' learning journey, learners are integrated into regular education classrooms for specialized subjects like art, music, yoga, and physical education. This multifaceted approach empowers our students to develop crucial skills, build strong social connections, and lay the foundation for future success.

The Mission of the Early Childhood Program
The SBJC Early Childhood Program is committed to providing child-centered, evidenced-based practices, where individual strengths are celebrated and family support is enhanced.
Functional
We strive to teach functional skills in meaningful ways and work to generalize success spanning from the classroom to the home.
Individualized
Our staff work to individualize programming needs and collaborate with our behaviorists on physical environment, instructional control, and skill acquisition.
Generalization
We value family partnerships and believe they are key to helping our children reach their full potential at home, school, and in the community.
How we're unlocking the potential of every student
Curriculum and Assessment
Our top priority is ensuring that our students receive individualized instruction that meets their unique needs and challenges them effectively. By combining IEP-driven instruction with exposure to the state’s academic standards, SBJC students benefit from a comprehensive educational experience designed to enhance their academic success and overall independence.
Our Early Childhood program implements various forms of assessments to determine levels of performance and drive instruction at the preschool level, including the Assessment of Basic Language and Learning Skills (ABLLS) and GOLD Teaching Strategies. These assessments make certain that our students receive instruction that is tailored to their specific needs and helps them make significant progress.
Applied Behavior Analysis
Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) is a scientific approach to improving skills and reducing challenging behaviors for children on the Autism Spectrum. Based on the principles of learning and behavior, ABA programming is individually designed to meet the needs of each learner. Applying the philosophies of ABA, we identify age appropriate behaviors and create a system that incorporates positive motivation and reinforcement for students.
Community-Based Instruction
Community-Based Instruction (CBI) is a valuable component of our curriculum designed to provide our preschoolers with real-world learning experiences. CBI empowers our students to explore their community, develop essential life skills, and engage in meaningful interactions while aligning with their individualized educational goals.
Related Services
In addition to our core educational programs, we offer a variety of related services to support your child's development and success. These services may include Speech and Language Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy, and Behavioral Therapy. Child Study Teams work with our district to coordinate the necessary services and ensure that our young learners receive the support they need to succeed.
